By collecting, preserving, and making accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans allows future generations to hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Individual experiences may have been different, but when compiled they form a powerful snapshot of history. People who have found their voice, shared their story, and reaffirmed their values often find a sense of peace and a hopefulness that they did not have before. Veterans stories are a permanent reminder of the sacrifices they have made to preserve our freedom.

National Network to share Veterans Stories

NVTN is developing a National Network of Veteran Memorials. With our Network you will be able to locate Veteran Memorials near you and also be able to learn about Veterans and our history through their personal stories.

Why Share a Veterans Story?

Sharing a veterans story can be a rewarding experience. Not only will you preserve the story for future generations but you can inspire others and sharing your experience could help veterans dealing with similar circumstances. There story is a permanent reminder of the sacrifices America’s veterans have made to preserve our freedom.

What story should I share?

We suggest veterans share their story by tapping into their military journey. Starting with why they decided to join the military and ending when they returned to civilian life. Along the way sharing some highlights and experiences that stand out.

Educate Students

NVTN is developing education materials for educators to download and use with students to learn about our history and personal stories of sacrifice. By learning more about our history prior to visiting their local Veteran Memorial on a field trip students will be better prepared and have a much richer experience while attending.

Students Share Experience

Students will be able to share their experience with family members and friends by accessing the same information about their local Veteran Memorial online through the NVTN website.

Veterans in the Classroom

NVTN is developing a resource list of Veterans that are willing to share their stories in the classroom. Educators will be able to access the resource list and invite a local Veteran that best fits their topic for classroom discussion.

Share your story

The National Veterans Tribute Network is meant to give veterans a creative outlet to talk about their time in the service and how their experiences have shaped them.

Army veteran Bruce Olav Solheim said “it’s liberating and absolutely essential for all of us to tell our own story.” “America does not go to war; individual Americans go to war,” he said. “Our veteran voices need to be heard.”
