The U.S.S. Kidd (DD-661), also known as the “Pirate of the Pacific”, is a fletcher class destroyer, originally launched on February 23, 1943. She served in World War II and the Korean War and was decommissioned in 1964. In 1982, she was brought from Philadelphia to Baton Rouge to serve as a Veterans Museum, which opened to the public on August 27, 1983. She is the only fletcher class destroyer that has been restored to her original World War II configuration.

As well as the museum and memorials, the Kidd includes traveling exhibits; Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July events; a free, keynote lecture series; and much more. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Veterans and seniors, and $6.00 for children.
