CENTRAL CITY — If Central City students want to broaden their education, they can always walk across the street to look at the town’s veterans memorial.

Organizers wanted the Heartland’s Tribute to Veterans to be educational, partly because it’s near Central City’s middle school and high school. So they “kind of tailored everything along that line,” said Gary Berry, Merrick County’s veterans service officer.

The memorial is so informative that it not only honors those who fought in wars, but also includes maps to show where they fought. Photos and information are depicted on the five walls in the pentagon-shaped memorial.
